Cabot Design History

Cabot Design Ltd was formed in 2000. A small group of engineers came together out of a requirement for the checkstress analysis of the wingbox spars on the now cancelled Nimrod MRA4 programme. Cabot Design has now gained a niche position in the aerospace engineering industry with its ability to offer competition to more well established companies.

Cabot Design was initially run out of an office in Charfield, Gloucestershire for the first five years. In mid-2004 the company moved to its present office nearby in Wotton-Under-Edge. A number of the founding members of the company moved to Australia and set up an office in Melbourne in 2005.

Since 2005 the company has rapidly expanded, gaining certification from Airbus, Rolls Royce, GKN and the British Standards Institute. It now regularly carries out work for the Airbus A320, A340, A380, A350 and A400M aircraft.

October 2011 : Cabot nears completion of work on A400M Wingtip for MSN6 and MSN7

> Cabot Design nears completion of the main static and F&DT work required for certification of the MSN6 Defence Aids Sub System (DASS) and MSN7 Common Standard Aircraft (CSA) wingtip structure.

> The completion of this project will mark the end of main certification work for the A400M entry into service.

October 2011 : Cabot starts work on A340 Breakthrough Laminar Aircraft Demonstrator in Europe (BLADE)

> Cabot Design has been awarded a part in development of the the Airbus A340 Breakthrough Laminar Aircraft Demonstrator in Europe (BLADE) wing structure.

> This research test aircraft hopes to test laminar flow technology and use more composite materials in its construction.

> This will involve replacement of the wing structure outboard of engines 1 and 4.

February 2011 : Cabot Design Assigned to A340 NLF Transition Structure B Scheme

Cabot Design has been assigned to support the Transition Structural Analysis through to B Scheme for the A340 Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) Flying Test Aircraft.
